It’s our last full day in Ontario! We awoke at dawn — noting as we glanced at our phone that dawn comes a bit later out here. We must be getting closer to the Western edge of this time zone.
Anyway, we packed up and hiked into Dresden for breakfast. After dining at Tim Horton’s, we stumbled upon a quintessentially Canadian show of support: hockey sticks stuck in the ground handle-first, in honor of a local lad named Gary (no further information was given). We also took a few minutes to poke around the Uncle Tom’s Cabin Historic Site, though the Visitor’s Center wasn’t open yet. Then we followed a dirt road all the way into Wallaceburg.
I do wish I’d been able to find a route that would have kept us longer in Canada. But there’s a lot to juggle when planning a six month walking tour. An extra three weeks roaming around the Great Lakes would have meant hiking through the Western mountains later in the season, and I didn’t want to risk getting snowed in.
Still, I’m glad we spent the time we did. We faced a few unknowns, and turned them into nothing-to-worry-abouts. Who knows? Might have even found a seed or two that’ll take root and grow into the stuff that yarns are made of.
No, not sheep. Why would a seed turn into a sheep?
