Day 46: Sanford to Clare, MI

We started before dawn today. The forecasters predicted afternoon temperatures in the neighborhood of 96°F/36°C, so we aimed to cover all the distance we could before noon.

I’ve said this before, but some things just don’t photograph very well on a cell phone video camera. I wish I could show you how beautiful it is to walk down a wood-lined path in the dark, watching the fireflies light up the margins. Still, there are plenty of other sights to see in the early morning hours. I hope you enjoy the ones I managed to capture.

A brief note about the bumblebee at the end. Some people believe in spirit animals. I’ve got no words to say about that, but I will say, if you start seeing a particular animal everywhere you turn, it’s just possible a spirit animal is presenting itself to you. Don’t take such a gift lightly. Before this trip began, I saw coyotes everywhere. Now it’s bumblebees. Kind of makes me wonder whether my case has been kicked to another department. Maybe that’s what happens when your coyote spirit animal decides you’re not worthy …

Maybe you are out of range of your Coyotes, the Bumblebees a more mobile unit of surveillance.

Ha! I know the red-winged blackbirds are surveilling me, and they’re not being very clandestine about it. Maybe they work for the bees …

I’ll have a few more thoughts on spirit animals today, and why I didn’t want to talk about them (and did anyway).

Abner – can we get a shot of the gear you’re carrying? We’ve seen the muck and trucks but would like to understand what you’ve got to carry while dealing with those things !

Good idea! I’ll do that next chance I get.

Jocelyn, I finally got a chance to do this. See the Day 52 vlog.

The East Bridgewater Council on Aging is enjoying following your travels! Michigan is beautiful…especially that tree lined trail you stumbled upon. Stay cool and hydrated!
