Day 64: Mondovi to Urne, WI

Remember our first night camping out in the woods of Wisconsin? Remember how the mosquitoes almost drained us dry? Well, the mozzies are gone now, but the horseflies are still buzzing around, and the gnats have joined them. We walked a good part of the day without any breeze — enveloped by a cloud of tiny black flies that wanted to make a sport of flying into our eyes and up our noses.

Still, it was a good day. We met Ken and Brenda, who showed us their flower garden and told us why we haven’t seen many cows in Wisconsin. And we met Richard, who recommended the cheeseburger at Urne’s Whitetail Bar & Grill, then came in after us to make sure we knew the best route to Wabasha. By the way, I was told twice how to pronounce Urne and still don’t believe I have it right, but I think it’s like “Ernie”.

Will you be going by Pepin? It’s the only Laura Ingalls Wilder home I havent been too.

Pepin, Wisconsin? I came close and didn’t realize it. Nelson is just downriver. But I did see a sign while heading for the bridge. I’ll post it on Facebook and tag you.
