Day 82: Woonsocket to Wessington Springs, SD

Folks … never, ever pass another vehicle when a pedestrian is walking on the left-hand shoulder. He doesn’t know you’re there, and you don’t know what he’s going to do.

There’s a reason we walk facing traffic: anything in that oncoming lane is a threat, and we need to know about it. But we can’t tell from the sound whether a car is in that near-side lane until it’s too late. Meanwhile, I’ve had rattlesnakes buzz me from the grass by the side of the road. I’ve had strong gusts of wind blow me unexpectedly sideways. If I’m on a narrow shoulder, anything can happen.

Assume the worst. Don’t be reckless. I’ll leave it at that.

Today we had breakfast in Woonsocket, followed by a relatively easy 15-mile hike into Wessington Springs. Traffic was light (reckless drivers notwithstanding), so I had time to do a little storytelling. I hope you enjoy today’s tale.

That was lovely. And a good reminder of what I read in your fun book the Legend of Pedestrio

This was my favorite vlog entry yet (except for the yellow sports car debacle–yikes to that).

Hearing you share snippets of your book is something magical. It makes reading the book at home a richer experience.

And it gets me thinking about making requests . . . “Read the part about the buck salmon! Or the part when you and Vern have a run-in with ________! Or the part where _______.” (Spoilers censored.) And then I think “I need to buy a copy of the audiobook.” 🙂
